WWF comments on CE’s Policy Address
The World Wildlife Fund issued a press release in response to the Hong Kong Chief Executive’s recent Policy Address. Basically they welcomed the Government’s decision to ban commercial fishing in marine parks, and some would say that it’s about time! Of course banning it is only part of the issue, they also need to enforce the ban. I’m hearing reports from a recent SCDC dive camp which took place near Double Haven (Yan Chau Tong) marine park, where there were a number of boats out fishing in the park throughout the night.
WWF also welcomed the government’s initiative to promote a low carbon economy, while pointing out that targets and detailed plans are needed to fulfil that vision.
You can read the WWF Press Release.
You can also read the Policy Address on the Government’s website, which interestingly doesn’t mention banning commercial fishing in marine parks. However Chapter 2 of the Government’s Policy Agenda does mention it. Perhaps Donald left it out of the actual address so as not to bore the legislators to death with too much detail, or perhaps he was hoping that the fishing lobby wouldn’t notice!
