Wellington Diver Charged with Wasting Police Time

Colin Smithies, the diver who apparently went missing after a dive near Porirua last week sparking a two day search, has been charged with wasting police time. Police believe that he hitchhiked to Hawke’s Bay, which is 270km away, where he handed himself in at a police station. According to a police spokesman, he was remorseful and quite traumatised.

More details from the New Zealand Herald.
